The SMART Ride Is Here! HIV/Aids… Has Not Left The Building

By Glen Weinzimer

Did you know?

  • New cases of HIV are on the upswing in Florida?
  • Those at greatest risk and who are getting infected at an alarming rate are ages 18-24, and seniors?
  • Minorities are disproportionately affected?
  • You do not have to be gay to get HIV?

You can impact change.

Meet Glen Weinzimer of the Southern Most AIDS/HIV Ride (The SMART Ride). SMART Ride is a fully supported 2-day, 165-mile bicycle ride from Miami to Key West this November 18th & 19th, 2016 that attracts 750 people annually. Participants range in age from 18 to 81. They come from all walks of life, socio- economic and religious groups, and political viewpoints. They ride and crew to help raise awareness and funds to educate and care for those at risk, infected or affected by AIDS.

What makes SMART Ride unique?

  • The 100% guarantee. Over $7.3 Million dollars raised in 12 consecutive rides since its 2003 has been returned to help those affected by HIV and AIDS.
  • Participants have some control over fund distribution to the chosen AIDS Service Organizations.
  • People remain in need. More than 34 Million people have died from this pandemic since it was discovered over 30 years ago. More than 36 million people live with HIV today.

How do we reduce the cases of HIV and AIDS?

  • We speak up. Silence is not an option.
  • We need to communicate to those at risk.
  • We need to say the word AIDS.
  • We need to reach out within our communities.

What are the options to get involved?

  1. Register and ride your bike.
  2. Become part of the 250 strong volunteer crew.
  3. Donate or sponsor the ride.
  4. Ask for help. Ask your friends, local businesses, national corporations. Do fundraising and pray.

It’s hard to put into words what SMART Ride is, what someone will experience, how it will change your life, or how it will change the lives of others. To register, learn more or donate visit www.TheSMARTRide.org today. SMART Ride is a non profit 501c3 organization. Your donations are tax deductible.
